From Fear to Freedom

Tango

Meet Tango

Their Hoofprints Remain

Tango came to Natural Freedom in a very different way than many of the other horses.

Before Natural Freedom existed, co-owner Pam was a horse trainer, coach, instructor, and 4-H advisor for local youth. She taught riding lessons, trained horses, and held clinics to help young riders prepare for 4-H shows and the county fair.

Tango and her young owner attended one of those clinics, where it quickly became clear that Tango was missing some important foundational training. When she became confused or frightened, her instinct was to run away. When she felt pressure she didn’t understand, her fear could escalate into rearing or even flipping backward.

Understandably, Tango’s behavior created fear for her young rider, too.

Pam offered to bring Tango to the family barn for additional training while helping her young owner build confidence and learn new ways to respond when things felt difficult.

What began as a challenging chapter became a beautiful partnership. Tango’s owner and Pam’s daughter became close friends, and together the girls grew in confidence and horsemanship. They went on to become county fair champions and Ohio State Fair qualifiers, with Tango and her owner especially enjoying jumping and successful competitions together.

When Natural Freedom was being developed, Tango’s owner generously donated her beloved horse to become part of the emerging equine therapy team.

Tango became an important part of the Natural Freedom story. She helped people work through fear, build confidence, and discover new ways to move forward—whether through therapeutic support or personal growth.

In her later years, Tango traded the excitement of competition for a quieter role. She could often be found resting along this tree line, peacefully watching the younger members of her herd graze in the field.

From a horse who once responded to fear by running away, Tango became a horse who helped others find their way through fear.

Her journey was one of trust, partnership, courage, and freedom.
