Meet Babe

Still Walking With Us

Babe came to Natural Freedom after a very successful career in the horse show world, where she helped many young riders learn, grow, and develop their horsemanship skills.

But Babe’s greatest talent may not be showing or teaching—it’s her love of people, especially young children.

Babe simply enjoys being where people are. After spending the day working with the community at Natural Freedom, Babe is turned out in the pasture to relax. But don’t be surprised if you find her standing right here at this corner, watching everything that is happening.

While the other horses may wander off to graze, Babe often chooses to keep an eye on the humans. She watches the owners working in the yard, relaxing on the patio, and going about their day.

It seems that for Babe, being near people is part of what makes her happy.

Since joining us at Natural Freedom, Babe has become quite famous. She has been featured in a Washington Post article about youth and mental health treatment and has received the special honor of Therapy Horse of the Year.

Most importantly, Babe has won the hearts of the many people who visit Natural Freedom.

Her story reminds us that sometimes the most powerful thing we can give another person is simply our presence, attention, and willingness to be there.

So the next time you see Babe standing here watching the activity around her, remember—she may not just be watching you.

She may simply be happy that you’re here.
